The 2D Studio Art Manager is responsible for supporting the Printmaking, Photography, and Painting & Drawing areas within the Newcomb Art Department. This role involves maintaining equipment and facilities, supervising students, managing material inventories, and ensuring a safe and organized environment for artistic creation. The technician is expected to collaborate closely with faculty, students, and other art technicians to support the department's 2D studio needs. The 2D Studio Art Manager plays a vital role in supporting the artistic development of students, maintaining equipment and facilities, and ensuring a safe and productive environment for the creation of art. This position requires attention to detail, a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive studio environment, the ability to adapt to the needs of the art department, and dedication to the department's educational and creative mission. Working knowledge of 2-D equipment
* Working knowledge of design and tool-pathing software required along with the Adobe Suite.
* Ability to handle multiple students and projects in a shop setting.
* Be able to lift up to 40lbs
* Ability to interview, train and supervise all work-study students.
* Ability to train all students, faculty, and staff using the shop and host safety orientations.
* Maintain and update all OSHA/HAZMAT documents pertaining to the shops and overall site.
* Perform regular maintenance of furniture, studio materials organization, inventorying of classroom equipment and materials including the scheduled ordering of consumables.
* Keep record of all required tools, materials and services necessary for the functioning of the shops.
* Assist with ordering, pick-up, and delivery of necessary sculpture materials.
* Coordinate with Fine Art administration to develop and hold to an annual budget for the shops.
* Perform general maintenance, construction, and fabrication as assigned by the Department.
* Bachelor's Degree in an Arts-related or adjacent field.
* Knowledge and experience in 2D studio art techniques and equipment.
* MFA preferred.
